Goals vs. Systems: HOW TO FAIL AND STILL WIN BIG by Scott Adams

Setting goals will give you nothing but frustration if you don’t get them and emptyness if you get them. And in the meantime you always feel that you are missing something, not that you are achieving. The motivation is negative, not positive. That’s one of the reasons why some people don’t like setting goals.

In this video, we learn that the key to getting things to happen is not goals, but systems, according to Scott Adams, Dilbert’s author. By the way, Dilbert comics have more corporate wisdom than many universities and big consulting firms. 😉

In this talk, he explains some of these ideas personally:

Personally, I think that both perspectives are complementary. It is not goals vs. systems but goals AND systems. It is useful to set goals, as long as you also implement systems to make things happen and you work based on positive motivation.
